Magilton Confirms Barcelona Striker Link - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed his interest in Barcelona B striker José Emilio Guerra. The 26-year-old Spaniard was first mentioned in connection with the Blues on a BBC transfer rumours site earlier in the week and posted on the TWTD Message Board on a number of occasions, although at the time there appeared to be little to substantiate the story.

Magilton said: "If I could get Guerra I would. We have made an enquiry to Barcelona about him and we will see what happens.

"I have been to see him play and he is a top quality striker who has a tremendous goalscoring record.”

Guerra began his career with Palamós CF, moving on to CD Linares, CE Sabadell, Granada CF and Real Zaragoza B where he attracted the interest of Barcelona, having scored 41 goals in their 2006/07 campaign which saw them win the Group 17 of the Tercera División (regionalised fourth tier of Spanish football).

Last season, with Barcelona's B side Guerra again won a title, Group 5 of the Tercera División, scoring 16 goals in 26 games.

Barça are reported to want £1 million for Guerra, whose only first team appearance came in last season's Catalona Cup against Girona.

The BBC story which first linked the Blues with Guerra claimed the Spaniard had spent time on trial with Town during last season, although TWTD was unable to find anything to substantiate the report. That story also linked QPR and Coventry with Guerra.

Meanwhile, Magilton is reported to have decided against a summer bid for Fulham striker David Healy, a loan target during last season.
