West Brom are the latest Premier League club reported to be ready to move for Town target Shola Amobi. Over the weekend, Hull City were also linked with the 26-year-old Newcastle United striker.
Last week, reports in Newcastle claimed the Blues had had an offer of an initial £2 million plus £1 million on appearances and another £500,000 on promotion accepted by the Magpies. Town denied lodging a bid but admitted making an enquiry regarding the former England U21 who manager Jim Magilton said he was keen to speak with once he returned from his honeymoon.
Ameobi, who seems certain to leave Newcastle this summer, is reportedly waiting to see what Premier League interest comes in before making a decision on his future. Earlier in the summer, the Nigeria-born frontman turned down the chance to join former loan club Stoke City.
Meanwhile, Town are starting to interview candidates for the position of goalkeeper-coach. Southampton's Malcolm Webster, who held the role during George Burley's time at Portman Road, has been tipped to return to Portman Road, while Jim Magilton has said Nick Colgan, whose short-term deal was up at the end of the season, could also be considered.
Last month, Andy Rhodes parted company with the club by mutual consent.
