Town Close to Bring Wright Back from West Ham - Ipswich Town News

Town are reported to be closing in on the signing of former keeper Richard Wright. The West Ham stopper is believed to be keen on a return to Portman Road, having almost re-signed a year ago.

TWTD first reported that Wright was being monitored by the Bluesback in March with Jim Magilton confirming that he would be interested in signing the ex-England man in May.

Wright, 30, came close to joining the Blues last summer but Town are understood to have stalled on completing the deal until the keeper's representatives had found a new club for Lewis Price, who has the same agent. Before Price's switch to Derby had been completed and with the new season approaching fast, West Ham came in for Wright.

Meanwhile, former Town goalkeeper-coach Malcolm Webster has denied a recent report which claimed he had been interviewed for his old job at Portman Road.

However, Webster, currently with Southampton, doesn't completely rule out a return to Suffolk and says he enjoyed being reunited with Wright during his loan spell with the Saints: "Working with Richard again at the end of last season was superb. I have not had an interview with Ipswich, but we will have to wait and see what happens.”

Webster is currently on holiday in Cyprus but is due back at Southampton on Thursday. The Saints recently appointed Dutchman Jan Poortvliet as head coach and it could be that the former Cambridge United player could be surplus to requirements at St Mary's.

Former Town youth keeper James Hollman, formerly a coach with Norwich City, and Nick Colgan, who was on a short-term deal with the Blues last season, have also been linked with the role, but Webster, like Wright, may well be on his way back to Portman Road over the summer.
