Williams Set for Portman Road Exit - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Gavin Williams is expected to leave the Blues later today. The 27-year-old is undergoing a medical at an unnamed club with a deal likely to be worth more than the £300,000 the Welshman cost Town in January 2006.

Boss Jim Magilton hopes Williams has a successful time away from Portman Road: "If he can settle down and concentrate on football he can do very well for his new club and we would wish him well.”

No club has been mentioned in connection with Williams in recent months, however, in January the midfielder was linked with Bristol City and Plymouth, having previously been mentioned in connection with Swansea, although the Swans' management has since changed. The Wales international previously worked with Robins boss Gary Johnson during his spell at Yeovil.

Williams joined the Blues from West Ham initially on loan in October 2005, making the move permanent the following January. The midfielder's time at Portman Road has been hit by injury, most significantly at the beginning of last season when he damaged ankle ligaments in the final game of pre-season at home to Panathinaikos.

The former Hereford man made 51 starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.
