Reserves to Compete in New Cup Competition - Ipswich Town News

Town's reserves will take part in a new cup competition alongside other Championship sides in the three Pontin's Holidays Combination leagues this season. The Invitation Cup will see the Blues face the likes of Crystal Palace, QPR and Charlton in addition to their regular league opponents.

The Blues are in Group B of the Invitation Cup and will face Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Queens Park Rangers and Watford. Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, Reading, Southampton and Swansea City are in Group A.

Two fixtures which are missing from next season's Pontin's Holidays Combination East Division schedule are the second string's East Anglian derbies with Norwich City. The Canaries have withdrawn from the league, which Town have won by a street for the last two seasons, and will play only friendlies during 2008/09.

Also leaving the Pontin's Holidays Combination East Division are the MK Dons and Grays Athletic. In come Watford, Leyton Orient and Wycombe Wanderers.

Town still have to play their play-off with last season's Wales and West Division winners Bristol City for the overall Pontin's Holidays Combination title. That game is expected to be played at Portman Road in the first or second week of the new season.
