Charisteas Deal Back On? - Ipswich Town News

Town's attempt to sign Greek international striker Angelos Charisteas is back on, according to a report this morning. The bid had appeared all but dead after claims that Nuremberg had turned down the Blues' offer and that the player wasn't interested in a move to Portman Road.

According to today's report, the clubs aren't too far apart in their valuation of the former Ajax man, the Blues having offered a fee previously reported to be around the £2.5 million or €3.5 million (£2.7 million) mark and that Town have been given permission to speak to the 28-year-old frontman and offer him a contract when he returns from holiday.

The story is inconsistent with German reports yesterday which said Charisteas had already told Town he wasn't interested joining the Blues and that he was more likely to find another club in Germany now that Nuremberg have been relegated out of the Bundesliga.

Widespread reports in the Greek media over the weekend claimed the Blues had already offered Charisteas a three-year deal worth €1.6 million per season (€30,000 or £20,000-a-week).
