Karic's Promise - Ipswich Town News

Town's Slovenian left-back Amir Karic has promised fans that they will hear much more of him. The internationl joined from Maribor last September but he has made just three fleeting first-team appearances as a Worthington Cup sub.

A loan spell at Palace went badly and he was sent home while his international career stalled after a red card in a World Cup qualifier against Switzerland. He has also suffered periods of loneliness with his family still back in central Europe. All in all it hasn't been the greatest of years for Amir.

But now he promises it will all change with his family on their way over in the summer: "I live here alone at the moment but my family will join me in July and that will make things much better for me. It willl help me concentrate more on training and playing and I'm sure in time I will get my chance."

In the reserves Karic hasn't always had the easiest of times. In the game with Arsenal back in October saw him given a torrid time by Jermaine Pennant and he hasn't always looked the best at the defensive side of his game. His most impressive reserve performance probably came in the West Ham game recently when he spent the second half playing in a more advanced role and was well in the the thick of things.

He is happy with his team-mates, however, and has got into pool and golf and is now a less frequent visitor to the bingo. There have been other foriegn players who have taken a bit of time to settle at Town, Bobby Petta, Martijn Reuser and Mauricio Taricco amongst them, but then there have also been the likes of Marco Holster and Cor Lems. Next season will see which Karic turns out to be.

Town's U17s play Millwall in a play-off game on Saturday (KO 11am Rushmere). They should have a full strength line-up despite many of the side playing for the reserves and U19s earlier in the week.

Squad: Kelly, Murkin, Bonwick, Chaffey, Richards, Ambrose, Bloomfield, Westlake, Dickinson, Burton, Bent, Smith, Murray, Okay, Boardley.

Meanwhile Academy Director Bryan Klug is amongst the mad fools running the London Marathon on Sunday.
