Jim: Lisbie is Natural Born Goalscorer - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has hailed Kevin Lisbie as a "natural goalscorer”, who will get plenty of chances to hit the net during his time with the Blues. Yesterday Lisbie joined Town from Colchester on a three-year deal, TWTD having predicted "one possibly two” Friday signings on Thursday.

Magilton said: "He's a real box player, a natural goalscorer and I expect him to do well here at Ipswich.

”He will get plenty of chances from our midfield and, with his pace and good movement around the box, I think he will make the most of them.”

The Town manager expects further additions prior to Wednesday's friendly with Gillingham: "Hopefully, we'll have one or two more through the door before our game at Gillingham.”

Keeper Richard Wright and midfielder Rudi Skácel are the most likely new recruits in the next few days, while Magilton could offer a contract to trialist Ben Thatcher, who has impressed him during the tour of Belfast, which ends with this afternoon's game at Glentoran.

Town's move for Greek international striker Angelos Charisteas appears to be making little progress, although Nuremberg's sporting director Martin Bader said yesterday that his club could agree a fee with Town for the 28-year-old frontman if the player was interested in the move.

Charisteas's intention to remain with Nuremberg unless he gets an offer from a top division club playing outside Germany looks to be the main obstacle preventing his move to Town progressing any further.

Nuremberg are keen to sell the former Werder Bremen, Ajax and Feyenoord man as they look to raise €10 million from transfers over the summer. They have even already lined Charisteas's replacement in Christian Eigler from Arminia Bielefeld.

Meanwhile, Norwich City have announced a veterans game against the Blues on Sunday 7th September at Carrow Road (KO 3pm, parade of players from 2pm) in aid of the Canaries' Historical Trust. Simon Milton will lead a Town side expected to include the likes of Jason Dozzell and Alex Mathie.
