Rangers Story Rubbish - Ipswich Town News

Town manager George Burley has moved quickly to deny weekend newspaper reports which say he is in the frame to be the next manager of Rangers. The Town boss is likely to have to fend off reports like this on a regular basis after taking Town into Europe, and possibly the Champions' League.

The Town boss said: "There is nothing in theses reports, it is complete rubbish. I'm very happy at Ipswich and are virtually assured of a UEFA Cup place which is an unbelievable acheivement for a side just promoted."

Not sure about the 'virtually' in that sentence. With Town now unable to finish lower than sixth they are guaranteed at least a UEFA place. Due to Liverpool and Arsenal's cup exploits UEFA places go down as far as sixth unless Liverpool finish seventh. In which case Town couldn't finish lower than fifth.

Town have a reserve game this evening away against Wimbledon. The re-arranged game will be played at Sutton United's Gander Green Lane ground. Selhurst Park gets enough of a bashing as it is without reserve games getting played there.

Amir Karic is away with Slovenia and Heerenveen visitor Ian Claes is away with the Belgium U21s. The other Heerenveen player currently spending time with Town, Marc Van Eijk, looks likely ot start as he did last week against Spurs.

Town squad: Salmon, Pullen, Artun, Croft, Miller, Moffat, Van Eijk, Abidallah, Nicholls, Friars, Graaven, Logan, Bloomfield, Bent, Snowdon and Bonwick.

Ashley Nicholls is set for a loan spell at IK Brage in Sweden according to Scandinavian sources. The local-born player joined Town from Ipswich Wanderers at the end of last season and has done well in the reserves this year.

He needs to make the step up to first team football and a loan spell seems the next logical step. Town European Scout Simon Hunt is a former Brage player and is the man behind the temporary move. So far this season Brage have lost both their games.

Marcus Stewart was announced as the winner of Town's own Players' Player of the Year Award on Saturday. The Premiership's leading scorer received his trophy from former secretary to many a Town manager Pat Godbold.

With Coventry duly despatched we thought it was time to look at a man who played for Town and managed the Sky Blues. Terry Butcher is a bit of a legend in these parts, but what are your favourite memories of his time here? Click the link on the Message Board: http://www.twtd.co.uk/messsages
