Wickham Nets First England Goal - Ipswich Town News

Academy striker Connor Wickham scored his first England U17 goal as his side defeated Iceland 1-0 at the Nordic Tournament in Sweden. Wickham, 15, was winning his second cap at U17 level.

The frontman, who will join the academy full-time next summer, made his first start having come off the bench in Monday's 1-0 win against Finland.

Wickham's goal came just after the hour mark, Arsenal's Luke Freeman finding the Town man with a through-ball and the striker rounding the keeper before netting from a tight angle.

The England U17s complete their group games with a match against Norway on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Town's U17s lost 3-2 to South Coast Bayern in their second game at the Northern Ireland Milk Cup on Tuesday afternoon, having beaten County Down 5-1 in their opening match on Monday.

England U17s: 13 Jak Alnwick, 2 Keanu Marsh Brown, 5 Oliver Nicholas, 6 Tom Parkes, 12 Luke Garbutt, 15 Joe McCann, 14 Jesse Lingard, 8 Chuks Aneke, (3 Jamie Reckord 74), 7 Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, 16 Connor Wickham (4 James Hurst 67), 11 Jason Banton.
