Jim Confirms Balde Link, But Skácel Deal Off - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed his interest in Celtic central defender Bobo Balde. The Guinean international was linked with the Blues yesterday, but is also interesting Birmingham City.

Magilton said: "Bobo has been made available by Celtic and we would like a conversation with him.

"If we can get him down and have a chat then we would like to, but it would be down to him and his advisors.

"I know Birmingham are very interested, but we have shown our interest so if we can get him here for a chat then you never know.”

Balde, who was born in France, has been with the Bhoys for seven years having signed from Marseille. The 6ft 3in tall defender has spells with Mulhouse and Cannes during his time playing in his home country.

The 32-year-old has a year left on his contract, but has been made available by the SPL champions. Wages are likely to be a possible stumbling block with Balde believed to be on £28,000-a-week at Parkhead.

Meanwhile, Magilton has also confirmed that Town's move for Southampton's Czech international Rudi Skácel is now dead. A £1 million fee had been agreed with the Saints and Skácel had even had a medical with the Blues, but it appears the 29-year-old is looking for top division football to enhance his chances of playing international football.

The Town boss is also looking to hold further talks with left-back Ben Thatcher, now that chief executive Derek Bowden is back from his holiday. Wolves are also reportedly interested in the former Charlton man.
