Town: No Formal Offer for Portsmouth's Nugent - Ipswich Town News

Town chief executive Derek Bowden has denied widespread reports claiming the Blues have made a bid for Portsmouth striker David Nugent. However, Bowden says talks are still ongoing with left-back Ben Thatcher, while the Blues are reportedly set for talks with Chievo regarding Erjon Bogdani.

Boss Jim Magilton confirmed his interest in Nugent on Friday, but Bowden says the matter hasn't yet gone as far as the Blues making an official offer, contrary to reports which claimed a bid of £3.5 million rising to £5 million was on the table: "We have not made any formal offer for the player."

News that Town's interest in Nugent is still at an early stage may indicate that the Blues are seriously considering a move for Chievo Verona striker Erjon Bogdani.

Italian reports today again claim that Town will meet with the Serie A club this afternoon when they take on QPR in a pre-season friendly at Loftus Road, with the Blues expected to make an offer for the Albanian frontman, who was first mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues earlier in the week.

Free agent Thatcher joined Magilton's squad for the pre-season trip to Belfast and impressed the Blues manager. Talks regarding his permanent move to Portman Road began last week but the ex-Charlton man subsequently joined Wolves on trial.

Bowden says Town's move for the 32-year-old is still progressing: "We are in discussions with Ben Thatcher and we will see what develops over the next few days."

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers are being linked with a loan move for ex-Blues loanee Danny Simpson. The Manchester United full-back gas also been linked with Aston Villa this summer.
