Jim: Campo Will Add Experience - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton says former Bolton and Real Madrid star Ivan Campo would add vital experience to his squad and could be an important influence on Town's younger players. Campo was shown around the club yesterday after watching Monday's friendly with West Ham.

Magilton said: "To be able to attract him would be fantastic. We have lost the experience of Jason De Vos, Fabian Wilnis and Sylvain Legwinski from last season.

"Ivan would give us back that as he has been there, and his experience and quality can rub off on to our younger players.”

Town are continuing talks with the 34-year-old, who was released by Bolton at the end of the season.

It's unlikely that any deal would be done before Saturday's season opener with Preston.

Magilton says that young defenders Tommy Smith and Pim Balkestein continue to be in his thoughts for possible first league starts in that game despite Monday's 5-3 defeat to the Hammers.

Preston could be without former Norwich striker Chris Brown when they visit Portman Road, although manager Alan Irvine is hopeful that he'll be over his injury: "I'd be very disappointed if Chris is not in contention for Ipswich.

"He hurt his ankle in the Everton friendly and since then he's had a little bit of pain in a hamstring and in his hip. It is nothing major, though, and hopefully he'll be OK."

Elsewhere, former Town winger Martin Brittain has joined Blue Square Premier side Kidderminster Harriers after a trial.
