Thatcher to Finally Sign Today? - Ipswich Town News

Ben Thatcher will reportedly finally complete his move to the Blues later today. The 32-year-old, who will sign a one-year deal, had been expected to join Town yesterday.

The former Charlton man is said to have undergone his medical yesterday evening, having impressed Jim Magilton on trial last month. The former Wales international then had trial spells with Wolves and West Ham, but appears ultimately to have decided on a move to Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Town and Norwich City are again said to be fighting it out for Shola Ameobi's signature. The 26-year-old had appeared to have drifted off the radar after Town showed interest earlier in the summer, but according to widespread reports over the last couple of days is again a Town target.

The Blues are also keen on Portsmouth's David Nugent as they look to increase their attacking options with Pompey confirming that money to buy new players is currently short, suggesting existing fringe members of Harry Redknapp's squad will have to be sold.
