Jim Admits Haynes Could Go - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has admitted that Danny Haynes could leave the club for Premier League football. Haynes has been constantly linked with top flight clubs over the summer.

On Wednesday, Arsenal, Wigan, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth were all claimed to be watching the former England U19 international.

Magilton said: "None of us would be surprised if Danny went to a Premier League club in the current climate.”

However, the Town manager says the Blues would have to receive a hefty fee in order to persuade him to part with the 20-year-old: "It would take really good money to prise him away from here.”

Meanwhile, Magilton has confirmed that discussions have begun with Alex Bruce regarding a new deal: "Alex is coming into the last year of his contract and we are in discussions with his agent about giving him a new contract. He is a young player who has played more games for me than any other manager and he has done very well.

"If we can come to an agreement we will, if we can't, then I can't do any more. At the moment he is still part of our plans and is going nowhere.”

Reports earlier in the week linked Bruce with Burnley and Leeds, with Clarets boss Owen Coyle later denying he was chasing the former Birmingham man.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be interested in former Newcastle full-back Steven Carr. The 31-year-old former Republic of Ireland international is currently a free agent having been released by the Magpies at the end of last season.

Earlier in the summer Carr was linked with Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham United and Wigan Athletic, so if the Blues are interested â€" and another senior right-back doesn't look an immediate priority â€" they are likely to face competition from Premier League sides.
