Nugent Not Interested as Celtic Striker Linked - Ipswich Town News

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that striker David Nugent is not interested in a move to Portman Road. Pompey are happy for the one-time England international to join the Blues for an initial fee of £3.5 million rising to £5 million on appearances.

Redknapp says that Nugent, again reported to be a target of Hull City by this morning's tabloids, doesn't fancy the switch: "Ipswich are interested in David, but he didn't want to go there. He needs to play games, though."

Town look to have decided against prolonging their chase for Nugent any further with Newcastle giving the go-ahead for talks to begin with Shola Ameobi at the end of last week with a deal involving an initial £2.5 million fee agreed.

Meanwhile, Scottish sources are reporting Town interest in out-of-favour Celtic striker Chris Killen. The 26-year-old has been in action with the New Zealand national side at the Olympics in recent days.

Killen, 6ft tall, started his career at Manchester City during Joe Royle's time as manager and went on loan spells to Wrexham and Port Vale while at Maine Road. A permanent £200,000 switch to Oldham followed in 2002 before the Wellington-born frontman joined Tony Mowbray's Hibernian.

While Killen was with the Hibees, Town's new international scout Simon Hunt was part of Mowbray's staff. A move to Celtic followed in May 2007, but he has made only three starts and 24 sub appearances, netting one goal.

Killen has won 26 caps at full international level, scoring 15 times.
