Town Again Linked With Cardiff's Johnson - Ipswich Town News

Town are again being linked with Cardiff City central defender Roger Johnson. The Blues made an enquiry to the Bluebirds regarding the former Wycombe Wanderers man.

Cardiff claimed that Town made a £1 million offer for the 25-year-old back in June, something Jim Magilton subsequently denied, although it seemed likely an enquiry had been made.

The Bluebirds slapped a £3 million price on the Ashford-born defender's head and, with the Blues signing Gareth McAuley from Leicester and Johnson penning a new three-year deal at Cardiff, the story appeared to be dead.

Now it's claimed that Town have gone back for Johnson, have had a £2 million bid rejected and are ready to make another offer.

A move for another centre-half would be a surprise with McAuley, Pim Balkestein and Iván Campo, who Magilton says he intends to use at central defence as well as in midfield, all signing over the summer, while youngster Tommy Smith has also broken into the first team reckoning.

If there is renewed interest in Johnson, it might suggest that one of the Blues' current centre-halves is on the way out. Alex Bruce, who has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, would seem to be the most likely candidate, although his agent continues to talk to Town regarding a new contract.

Cardiff appear even less likely to sell Johnson now than they were earlier in the summer having secured him on the new long-term deal and with another centre-half Glenn Loovens joining Celtic for £3 million last week.

Meanwhile, Fabian Wilnis has revealed he plans to release a calendar which will include photos of the Dutch defender in risqué poses during his testimonial year, which kicks off with a fashion show in October.

Wilnis also says he hopes to take one or two of Town's youngsters on loan at his new club Grays Athletic, where he is getting involved in coaching as well as continuing his playing career.
