Jim Pleased With Town's Reaction - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton was pleased with his side's reaction to Saturday's home defeat to Wolves. The Town manager was happy with the manner in which his side defeated Colchester to take a place in the third round of the Carling Cup.

Magilton said: "It was important to get a positive reaction after Saturday and it gives everyone a confidence boost.

"It was a positive response from the start as well. We passed the ball very well in the first half in particular.

"Pablo's goal was important, although their keeper will probably be disappointed with it. And we could have had a few more before Kevin Lisbie scored a fantastic goal.

"We expected a reaction from Colchester and they didn't disappoint. We switched off for the last 15 minutes when we should have been out of sight and that is something we have to work on.

"Iván had a good 70 minutes or so. The players trust him with the ball and he gives us some experience and quality in there. Jon Walters looked sharper and he will be better for another game and it's nice to be in the next round."

Colchester boss Geraint Williams had few complaints with the result: "We're disappointed that we never got behind Ipswich in the first half. Then we mugged ourselves with our defending. Both their goals should have been stopped.

"We should have stopped Kevin Lisbie on the halfway line for his goal. Then it was a double cardinal sin because we also didn't keep the ball away from his right foot.

"We thought that we knew how to stop him scoring, but we didn't keep it away from his right foot. We then created four or five good chances ourselves, but we didn't take them so we're out of the cup."
