Málaga Midfielder Reveals Town Interest - Ipswich Town News

Málaga midfielder Javier Calleja Revilla has revealed that Town made an offer for him over the summer. The 30-year-old played alongside Pablo Couñago at the Spanish club.

Calleja, left-footed but who can play all across the midfield, told a newspaper in Spain: "It is true that a serious offer existed and that the matter was advanced, but in the end it remained merely an enquiry which did not come to fruition.”

The Madrid-born player started his senior career with RSD Alcalá, having been a youth player with Real Madrid. After a short spell with CD Onda he moved on to Villarreal, where he played in La Liga and the UEFA Cup during a seven-year spell. In 2006 he joined Málaga where he played alongside Couñago for one season.

Town have increasingly looked at Spain as a source of new players with César Navas, another former team-mate of Couñago's at Málaga, coming close to signing last summer, before opting to move to La Liga side Racing Santander, and Iván Campo joining the Blues in August.

On Saturday, TWTD revealed that former Barcelona trainee Nano has spent time on trial with the Blues and has been asked back for a second spell.
