Town and Charlton to Swap Campo and Ambrose? - Ipswich Town News

Town and Charlton are close to swapping midfielders Iván Campo and Darren Ambrose, according to national newspaper reports this morning. Former Blue Ambrose, out of contract next summer, is a player Jim Magilton has been after for some time.

The Town boss was first linked with a with a move for 24-year-old Ambrose back in November 2007 and last week admitted that the midfielder was in his thoughts for the future: "He is probably on a list of players we would like.”

Campo joined Town on a free transfer in the summer, but has yet to make a first team place his own with Veliche Shumulikoski impressing in the deeper central midfield role in recent games.

While Campo leaving after only six starts, two sub appearances and one goal would be a surprise, the Blues are more than well covered in central midfield, with five senior players plus the likes of Liam Trotter.

Town are short of a wideman and Ambrose is well-known to Magilton, who played alongside him during his previous spell with the Blues, and Bryan Klug, who was his coach at academy level.

Meanwhile, Veliche Shumulikoski says he's pleased to be in the side again after a spell on the sidelines: "It is nice to be back in the team, everyone wants to play and I want to play in every game.

"Sometimes I am left out as I am tired and there are so many games here. However, I am getting better with this mentality of there being so many games.”
