Rhodes Nets as Reserves Draw With Charlton - Ipswich Town News

Jordan Rhodes netted Town's goal as the reserves drew 1-1 against Charlton at Ebbsfleet in a Totesportcasino.com Combination Cup Group B game on Monday evening. Izale McLeod equalised Rhodes's first half goal after the break but later hit the post from the penalty spot.

Rhodes put the Blues in front in the 18th minute, the striker heading home Kurt Robinson's cross.

Defender Paul Watson had a header cleared off the line, then Iván Campo sent a freekick just over as the Blues had the better of the first half.

The Addicks got back on terms in the 61st minute when Chris Dickson crossed and McLeod finished from close range.

Dickson came close to putting his side in front soon after but Alex Bruce blocked his shot on the line.

Robinson missed a good chance for the Blues from a Ben Thatcher cross, prior to Charlton being awarded a penalty after Bruce had fouled Dickson. McLeod took the kick, but hit the post.

Late on, Jai Reason came close to winning it for Town but his effort was cleared off the line.

Full-back Ben Thatcher played the full 90 minutes of his first competitive reserve game since his torn calf muscle.

Town currently sit second behind Charlton in Totesportcasino.com Combination Cup Group B having played three games. The winners and runners-up in the two groups go through to the semi-finals.

Reserves: Supple, Bruce, Thatcher, Campo (Eastman 79), Watson, Balkestein, Lambe (Daniels 68), Reason, Rhodes, Upson, Robinson. Unused: Ainsley, Ward, Dunbar.
