Town Chasing Jackson? - Ipswich Town News

Town are keeping a close eye on Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson, according to a report in one of Sunday's tabloids. Jackson, 21, has scored 10 goals so far this season.

Jackson was born in Jamaica but grew up in Ontario, Canada and plays international football for his adopted country.

He played alongside Town's Jaime Peters at the FIFA U20 World Cup in the summer of 2007 and has won seven caps at that level. Like Peters he was nominated for the 2007 Canadian Youth Player of the Year award, which was won by Newcastle's David Edgar.

Jackson recently received his first call into the full international squad, but is yet to make an appearance.

The 5ft 7in tall pacy striker moved to England as a 15-year-old and started his professional career with Rushden and Diamonds, scoring 42 goals in 69 starts and 24 sub appearances over three seasons playing in League Two and the Blue Square Premier. In 2005 he had trials with Manchester United and Manchester City.

In January, Jackson joined the Gills for £150,000, signing a deal aimed at keeping him at the Priestfield Stadium until 2011.

So far since his move he has scored 14 goals in 33 starts and five sub appearances and also netted in Town's 1-1 pre-season friendly draw at Gillingham in July.

When joining the Gills Jackson described his attributes: "I will bring some pace and strength to the front line and I like to get in behind the defence and ultimately score goals.

”That is what every striker thrives on and I am no different."
