Odds and Sods - Ipswich Town News

Several weekend newspapers claimed that the odds on George Burley becoming Manchester United manager when Alex Ferguson retires had been slashed. With this in mind Man United fanzine United We Stand (www.uwsonline.com) decided to find out exactly what these odds were.

They discovered that no bookie was actually running a list as yet and that the odds given to the papers were for "publicity purposes". So next time (because there surely will be a next time) we read how George's odds have been slashed for the United job we'll know not to take them too seriously. Not that we did anyway.

Town have denied that either the North Stand Lower tier or the South Stand lower tier are being lined up to be used for away fans. A story has been circulating town suggesting that the North Stand lower tier will become the away section when the new stand is complete.

Others have also claimed that the South Stand lower would eventually become the away enclosure. Richard Powell, Town's Customer Service Manager, told TWTD: "The club has no plans to put away supporters in the North Stand, nor are there any plans to move away fans to the South Stand."

Yesterday's announcement that North Standers had decided to spend the whole of next season in the South Stand added fuel to the North Stand away fan rumour, Richard Powell again: "Yesterday's announcement was about us carrying out the wishes of the majority of North Stand season ticket holders following the vote on whether or not to move back into the North Stand immediately or the following season, no hidden agenda."
