Droylsden-Chesterfield Abandoned Again! - Ipswich Town News

Town are still no wiser as to the identity of their FA Cup third round opponents after the Droylsden-Chesterfield second round replay was abandoned due to floodlight failure on Tuesday evening with the League Two side two goals in front.

The original match was also abandoned because of fog with last week's rescheduled match ending in a bizarre 2-2 draw.

Former Blue Darren Currie had netted Tuesday's second Chesterfield goal before the lights went out in the 72nd minute, former Grimsby and Nottingham Forest man Jack Lester having scored the first.

The sides will meet for a fourth time on a date yet to be set, possibly causing the third round tie to move or alternatively with the postponement of the inseparable clubs' league fixtures at some point over Christmas.

Elsewhere, Matt Richards netted a penalty in a shoot-out for Brighton as Albion beat Shrewsbury to go through to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Area final. Richards struck the Seagulls' fifth successful kick before Shrews striker Grant Holt was the only man to see his spotkick saved.

Billy Clarke was also on target in a shoot-out as his Darlington side lost 4-2 on penalties at Rotherham after a 1-1 draw in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern semi-final.

Meanwhile, Hamilton Academical have announced that they won't be looking to extend Chris Casement's loan when it's up at the end of the year. The Northern Irish U21 international has made only one start and one sub appearance during a loan spell which started in August.
