Jim Praises Character - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Jim Magilton praised the character of his side after they came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Coventry at the Ricoh Arena. The Blues boss felt that Richard Naylor was fouled in the run-up to Coventry's second goal.

Magilton said: "We're halfway through and this is marathon. We're in a pack of clubs who believe they've got an opportunity so we're going to keep going.

"We can do better and I'm hoping that Christmas provides a springboard for the rest of the season.

"To come back from 2-1 down speaks volumes of the character in the side. I can say we've had inconsistent performances. I think when we are good, we're a match for any team in this division.

"We're trying day in, day out to get consistency in our play. I've got an honest bunch of lads who are terrific to work with and we'll continue to work extremely hard."

The Town manager said he was determined to end a streak of three defeats away from home: "It was important to stop that run. I would have liked to have the three points and we had the opportunities, but it was an end to end game.

"We were caught on the hop in the first minute but we bounced back and showed great character to get back in the game quickly and we had a lot of possession in the first half.

"At half-time I thought we would go on and win the game, but we went behind again. It looked a foul on Richard Naylor. I will have to have another look at it on video but my first impression was that it was a foul.

"The formation worked well with the three up front and I thought Kevin Lisbie was outstanding for us. His movement was excellent. He has been chomping at the bit to play and I'm delighted for him. He's a goalscorer and if you give him the ammunition, he will score goals.

"Hopefully, the point will give us a little more confidence going into our Boxing Day game against Birmingham."

Coventry boss Chris Coleman was less than impressed with his side's defending: "I am not one to sweep things under the carpet. I could sit here and say it was an exciting game with both sides having chances to win it. But we've conceded two goals with Keiren Westwood making some outstanding saves.

"We've scored four goals in two home games but we've only got two points to show for it and that's not good enough.

"At the start of the season I could point the finger at our strikers because they were not scoring goals. That is not the case now. We're not keeping clean sheets and that's disappointing."
