Boss Jim Magilton felt Town had dropped two points after Sheffield Wednesday left Portman Road with a 1-1 draw. Pablo Couñago equalised for the Blues after Steve Watson had put Wednesday in front just after half-time.
Magilton said: "It's most definitely a case of two points dropped. It was a home game and one we felt we could win - and I don't mean that with any disrespect to Sheffield Wednesday.
"But I'm positive - I'm always positive and the play-offs are definitely still on. There are plenty of games left and, if we get three points next week, the picture changes again. We've still got opportunities, we just need to take them.
"I was disappointed with the manner in which they scored but pleased to get back in the game.
"The first half was entertaining and we were expressive. We showed a real desire to go and win the game and created some wonderful opportunities.
"If I was being over-critical, we could have done better in the final third. We didn't have enough quality in terms of our final ball.
"But at half-time it was all about reaffirming our belief - I really thought we would go on to win the game.
"However, we made a poor start to the second half and got punished by conceding a goal.
"Pablo's equaliser was a real poacher's effort and got us back on level terms. Hopefully, it will help his confidence build, and at that point I really felt we'd push on and win.
"It was a good header for Gareth that led to the goal and he can be a threat for us in their box.
"He's hard to stop when he really attacks the ball and shows a real desire and he needs to do that more because we have yet to see a goal from him, and he has goals in him."
Magilton says central defender Iván Campo is a concern for the trip to Crystal Palace with a calf strain: "It's too early to tell how bad it is but he's certainly got to be doubtful for next week."
Wednesday boss Brian Laws felt his side deserved at least a point: "I said to the players we deserved a draw, but there was also a tinge of disappointment that we didn't win.
"Goals change games and the second was always going to be the most important.
"We had two magnificent opportunities to win, both through Jermaine Johnson.
"But his decision-making let us down both times and they were probably the simplest chances of the afternoon for either team.
"The whole back five were excellent. That's two defeats in nine league games and we're getting stronger.
"We've turned a corner and we've got some good young players coming through.
"They've given every ounce of blood for us and there's a freshness about the club and an air of confidence. We're positive for the future."
