Town Waiting on Thatcher - Ipswich Town News

Town will make a late decision on whether to include left-back Ben Thatcher in the squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea. The 33-year-old missed last Saturday's 4-1 win at Crystal Palace after being taken ill.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "Ben was ill on the night before the Palace game and was quite bad to be honest.

"We were worried about him at one stage, but he's back training with us now and we will see how he is on Friday.

"There have been instances this year with Owen Garvan and Kevin Lisbie when they have been ill and came back desperate to play and then found there was nothing in the tank at the weekend.

"We will have to be wary of that with Ben. He will travel with us to Chelsea and we will make a judgement call on Saturday, but we have another game on Tuesday night at Barnsley to think about and it maybe that he has more of a chance of playing in that game."

Thatcher's likely absence will probably see Dan Harding keep his place at left-back with David Wright likely to be at right-back in the absence of Moritz Volz, who is out with a groin injury.
