Bowden on Civelli Deal - Ipswich Town News

Town chief executive Derek Bowden has clarified the make up of the £1.1 million deal which saw midfielder Luciano Civelli join the Blues from Argentinian side Banfield earlier today.

Reports in Argentina described the deal as the Blues taking 100% of Civelli's federative rights, his registration, and 50% of his economic rights, but with an option to buy the other 50%.

Bowden told TWTD that the South American explanation should be understood slightly differently in UK terms: "If you translate the way that it's been expressed into English, we own 100% of the player and Banfield have a 50% sell-on, as simple as that. And we have an option to buy that sell-on if we wish to before a given date at a set price.

"It equates absolutely to a sell-on clause, the only difference being that we have the option at a fixed price to buy out the sell-on.

"It is totally and utterly different from the situation with Tevez and Mascherano, but in any case all along the line we've conferred with the FA and the Football League to make sure that everything we've done is absolutely legitimate and approved.”

Boss Jim Magilton is pleased to have added the 22-year-old to his squad: "We are delighted to have Luciano at the club. We had him watched several times in Argentina with Simon Hunt, Steve McCall and Charlie Woods all having a close look at him.

"We feel he has all the attributes to be a success at this club. He's a naturally left-sided player who wanted to come to England and test himself.

"He will add to the competition for places here and if he makes the same sort of impact as the last player the club got from Argentina - Mauricio Taricco - we will have done OK!

"He has not played for a few weeks because of the break in Argentina, but we will get an idea of his fitness levels tomorrow and take it from there."

Bowden told TWTD that no other deals are imminent: "There's nothing inbound in the pipeline at the moment and outbound you never know until you get an offer, but there's nothing pending at the moment.”
