It was on-loan Town frontman Jordan Rhodes's strike partner Charlie McDonald's turn to grab a hat-trick this week as Brentford beat Chester 3-0 at Griffin Park. Rhodes created McDonald's first goal and won the penalty which led to his third.
Elsewhere, Jaime Peters made his first start for Gillingham as they lost 2-0 at home to Bradford, but was replaced after 55 minutes.
Chris Casement, Billy Clarke and Kurt Robinson had the afternoon off as their games for Wycombe, Northampton and Rushden and Diamonds succumbed to the weather.
