Town sales and marketing director Andrew Goulborn has defended the club's failure to pass on the recent cut in VAT to season ticket holders. Prices this season are the same as last year's despite the reduction in VAT from 17.5% to 15%.
TWTD columnist Chris Rand highlighted the situation in an article earlier in the week.
Goulborn says the club will continue to offer fans savings elsewhere, as they have with matchday tickets since the cut, and additionally have extended their credit scheme and are again offering a 50% price cut if Town win promotion: "The cost reduction that would have resulted from adjusting VAT to 15% on season tickets would have equated to an average saving of just 30p a game.
"Rather than reducing prices by this relatively small amount (and increasing them again next season) we took the decision to invest in freezing all season ticket prices, extending the interest-free credit period from four to eight months and extending our £2.5 million Premiership Cashback rebate offer for another season.
"We continue to offer ‘VAT Buster' promotions in our retail shops and on the most popular stadium kiosk meals and we will review this for next season.â€Â
Meanwhile, one of club owner Marcus Evans's companies, Marcus Evans Limited, is set to be fined £1,500 for failing to deliver their accounts on time. The exhibition and conferencing business's accounts were due with Companies House on July 30th 2008.
A spokesman for the company explained the delay: "The Marcus Evans Group is a very large and complex business and it takes time to ensure we have up to date financial accounts. They will be filed in the next two weeks.â€Â
