Peterborough 3-3 Reserves - Ipswich Town News

Dean Bowditch, Connor Wickham and Jack Ainsley were on target as Town's reserves drew 3-3 at Peterborough United's London Road this afternoon. The Blues were 3-1 down but clawed their way back to claim a draw.

The Posh went ahead with practically the first kick of the game, trialist Louis Smith lashing home within seconds of the start.

Dean Bowditch got the Blues back on terms on 12 with a well taken goal from 12 yards.

The home side were back in front on 20 when Billy Crook beat Ian McLoughlin with a long range effort with the keeper deceived by the ball's movement in the air.

Town were unlucky to go in a goal down at the break with Wickham and Tommy Smith both hitting the woodwork. Smith, starting his first reserve game after his lengthy absence due to a broken ankle, made way for Tom Eastman for the second half.

Another Peterborough trialist, Yusuf Yilmaz from Stoke, increased the home side's lead on 65, then Connor Wickham pulled a goal back for the Blues, applying a close range finish after good work from Danny Haynes.

With 14 minutes remaining, Jack Ainsley levelled the scores with a header from a corner.

A good all-round performance from the Blues with Luke Hyam and Matt Richards probably putting in the most impressive displays.

Tommy Smith did well during his 45 minutes, while trialist Troy Brown, an 18-year-old central defender released by Fulham, again impressed without making quite the impression he did a week ago at Southend.

Reserves coach Chris Kiwomya was joined at London Road by Bryan Klug and Charlie Woods, while the crowd was subjected to the sight of Peterborough director of football Barry Fry spending the second half sunbathing semi-naked in one of the stands.

Reserves: McLoughlin, Ainsley, Brown, Smith (Eastman 46), Richards, Hyam (Cawley 68), Haynes, Daniels, Griffiths (Lambe 54), Wickham, Bowditch. Unused: Ward, Murray.
