Sunderland Skipper Whitehead Linked - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Dean Whitehead is the latest member of Roy Keane's Sunderland squad to be a linked with a move to the Blues. Whitehead skippered Keane's Sunderland side during his time in charge at the Stadium of Light, a position he still holds.

The 27-year-old is claimed to be a possible Town recruit if the Black Cats, currently 16th, are relegated to the Championship.

Last week, Sunderland youngster Jordan Henderson was also claimed to be on Keane's potential list of signings, along with a number of other Black Cats.

Abingdon-born Whitehead started his career with Oxford United, joining Sunderland for £150,000 in the summer of 2004 after five seasons with the U's.

While with the Black Cats he has made 184 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring 14 goals, and has won the Championship twice.

Happiest in central midfield, Whitehead, who is contracted to Sunderland until 2011, has also played at right-back.

Last summer, the 6ft tall player was linked with possible moves to Stoke City, Fulham and West Brom.
