Three Named in Team of the Week for Cardiff Displays - Ipswich Town News

Town trio Richard Wright, Pim Balkestein and David Norris have all been named in the Championship Team of the Week for their performances in Saturday's 3-0 win at Cardiff. It's the first time this season that the Blues have had three players picked in the weekly select XI.

Former Town loanee Jon Macken, now with Barnsley, is also in this week's top team.

Meanwhile, Matt Richards, who made his first Town start in two years at Ninian Park, has told the club site that he would love to stay with the Blues after his contract comes to an end in the summer: "The new manager coming in has been given me a chance and I'm thankful for that. I did OK against Cardiff and hopefully I will get another chance to show the manager what I can do on Sunday.

"It's been a long time, two years. I have never given up though. I have come in and trained hard and just kept going.

"I've had a chance to show the new manager what I can do and it will be a case now of seeing if I am part of his plans for the future.

"There are a lot of us out of contract in the summer and the manager has obviously got a lot of thinking to do. The door might be a little bit more open for me now, who knows? I definitely want to stay if that is possible."

Team of the Week: Richard Wright (Town), Kyle Walker (Sheff Utd), Lewin Nyatanga (Derby), Kyle Naughton (Sheff Utd), Pim Balkestein (Town) Tommy Smith (Watford), David Norris (Town) Paul McKenna (Preston), David Cotterill (Sheff Utd), Jonathan Macken (Barnsley) and Dexter Blackstock (Nottm Forest).
