Wilnis Wants Keane to Play in Testimonial - Ipswich Town News

Testimonial man Fabian Wilnis says he plans to ask new Town boss Roy Keane to play some part in his testimonial match against Colchester United on Saturday, 25th July. Meanwhile, Keane has been laying out his priorities for the early part of the close season.

Wilnis says he would be delighted to see Keane play some part in his match: "I'm definitely going to ask him. It's up to him, but if he says yes it would be great and very special for the fans.

"For him to play some part in my testimonial would be amazing, even if it's just for a few minutes.”

Before then, Keane says he expects to be busy, with finding somewhere to live in Suffolk his main concern: "We'll hopefully get that sorted in the next few weeks. My main priorities will be getting a house and a school sorted for my children. Then we can start focusing on potential targets to bring to the football club.”

Although the new boss expects to make only three or four signings at most before next season, he isn't anticipating a quiet few months: "As much as the players can enjoy their break, which could be a long one, possibly seven or eight weeks, myself and the staff will already have to start looking to next season.

"We'll be getting pre-season sorted out, trying to get players into the club and looking at the training facilities. There'll have to be changes made there, so it's going to be a busy summer. But I've just had the last five months off, so I should have no problem with that.”

Keane, who will decide which of the 13 out of contract players he wants to keep this week, says that while he's found Town's Playford Road training ground welcoming, he'll be needing an office of his own: "I have found it very friendly and very open, with people coming and going around the place.

"But first and foremost it has to be a serious place of work. And changes will be made to ensure that it is.

"And I need an office at the training ground and this is something that also has to be attended to. It does not mean major building work, just a re-shuffle.”

Elsewhere, a report in Ireland is again linking Barnet striker John O'Flynn with the Blues. The 26-year-old was previously mentioned in connection with Town during his spell with Cork City and again in March.
