Barnet Striker Keen on Town Move - Ipswich Town News

Barnet striker John O'Flynn says he would love to join Roy Keane's revolution at Portman Road. The 26-year-old has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions over the last couple of years and is hoping to make the step up to Championship level this summer.

O'Flynn joined the Bees last August after an injury hit spell with Keane's hometown club Cork City and has enjoyed a hugely impressive season at Underhill, scoring 18 goals in 34 starts and two sub appearances. Last week, the frontman, who has a year left on his Barnet deal, was awarded the League Two club's official Player of the Year gong.

Capped by the Republic of Ireland U21s six times earlier in his career, scoring four goals, O'Flynn played alongside Reading's Kevin Doyle and Shane Long and former Blue George O'Callaghan at Cork and says he's keen on a move to a club at Championship level: "I think you have to give it a try, to try and play at the highest level you can.

"I think the lads that have gone over have shown that the step up isn't too big in that league. I am ready to take up the challenge.”

Town and Watford were linked in March and O'Flynn says more recent events have made Portman Road an even more attractive potential destination: "I'd love to play there. Roy is just a legend.”

O'Flynn first moved into English football when he joined Peterborough United as a youngster but returned to Ireland and Cork City where he broke into the first team in 2002 and helped the club to the 2005 Eircom League championship and the 2007 FAI Cup.

The Cobh-born player scored 68 times in 138 games for Cork with TWTD reporting that he was on the Blues' radar back in July 2007.

Town look likely to target a goal poacher in the O'Flynn mould in the summer, especially if Kevin Lisbie's unwillingness to move to Suffolk sees his departure and Keane is likely to be familiar with the striker from his time at Cork City. Whether his achievements in League Two and the Eircom League are enough to convince the new Blues boss that he's up to a Championship promotion challenge remains to be seen.
