Keane in Hungary Watching Debreceni Striker - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Town boss Roy Keane spent Saturday afternoon in Hungary checking out Debreceni striker Gergely Rudolf. The Hungarian international failed to score as his side won 1-0 away against Honvéd.

Rumours that Keane was off to Hungary today first broke on the TWTD Message Board on Friday afternoon, with Hungarian sources subsequently confirming Keane's presence at the Honvéd-Debreceni game in Budapest.

Rudolf, 24, has won seven full international caps, scoring one goal, in addition to having made three appearances at U17 level, without scoring, and six for the U19s, netting twice.

The Nyiregyháza-born player, who can also operate as a wideman, joined local side Nyíregyháza Spartacus as a youngster before moving on to AS Nancy in France, playing initially in their B side before making his first five appearances for their senior team in the 2005/06 season.

The following season Rudolf was back in the Nancy B side and he returned to Hungary in the summer, signing for Debreceni.

In his first season he scored twice in 13 games as his side won the Hungarian Cup and were runners-up in the league and two other domestic cups. Their second place in the league saw them into this season's Champions League.

This year, the 5ft 9in tall frontman has helped his team to the top of the league with 15 goals in 23 games, prompting several British clubs to watch him in recent months.

Debreceni‘s Champions League run was brief with Swedish side Elfsborg defeating them in the second qualifying round, while Swiss side BSC Young Boys subsequently knocked them out of the UEFA Cup after they had overcome Macedonian side FK Rabotnicki.

Signing a prolific striker would appear to be one of Roy Keane's priorities this summer with Rudolf seemingly very much the type of predatory frontman the Blues have been lacking this season.
