Town After Manchester United Winger? - Ipswich Town News

Town are being linked with a summer move for Manchester United winger Lee Martin. The 22-year-old left-sided player has spent much of the last few seasons on loan at various clubs.

Taunton-born Martin joined United's academy from Wimbledon in 2003 and by 2005 had made his first team debut in a Carling Cup tie against Barnet.

Since then, the 5ft 10in tall wideman has failed to establish himself at Old Trafford, making only one more senior appearance.

Loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth, Sheffield United and last season Nottingham Forest have followed. With Forest, Martin, who can also operate up front, made nine starts and four sub appearances, scoring one goal.

Martin, who Roy Keane will know well from his time at Manchester United, is out of contract this summer, although it is likely that compensation would be due if he moved on as he is under 24 years old.

A left winger is very much on Roy Keane's summer shopping list with Luciano Civelli out until early next year with his knee ligament injury.

Meanwhile, former Town boss Jim Magilton has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Blackpool. Last week Magilton was interviewed by QPR regarding taking over at Loftus Road.
