Murray in Irish Qualifying Squad - Ipswich Town News

Academy striker Ronan Murray has been named in the Republic of Ireland U19 squad for their UEFA Championship elite qualifying phase matches against Sweden, Switzerland and hosts Belgium between June 5th and 10th.

Murray, Town keeper Ian McLoughlin and striker Paul Murphy are in Dublin today for a three-day Republic of Ireland U19 training camp in preparation for the UEFA Championship games.

Frontman Murray has two U19 caps and has scored one goal, while keeper McLoughlin has not previously won any caps at U19 level and Murphy, a late addition to the training camp squad, has six and has scored once.

Murphy hasn't played for a Town side since before Christmas after failing to reappear after the break complaining of homesickness. He finally returned to Suffolk in late February for a meeting with club officials along with his representative, former Blue Paul Goddard, who these days works for Jonathan Barnett's Stellar Group, for talks regarding the settlement of the remaining year on his contract.

A number of other clubs, presumably closer to Murphy's Irish roots, are believed to be keeping an eye on developments.

Meanwhile, Alex Bruce has been left out of the senior Irish squad for a friendly with Nigeria and a World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria.
