Midfielder Bid Fails - Ipswich Town News

Town have failed in their bid to bring in a midfielder, identity as yet unknown. However, the Town boss did give a clue to who this player is.

Burley revealed: "He is English and is with a lower league club. His club don’t want to sell and it looks as if that is the end of the matter. It would be nice to bring in one or two new players in the next few weeks. There is nothing concrete at the moment but it is quiet generally."

It is thought that the player's club are firmly against selling and that a larger offer may not be enough to tempt them into allowing their player to leave.

The revelation that the player is a lower Division one is an interesting one. Of the names mentioned in recent weeks only Jason Koumas from Tranmere and Jamie Tolley of Shrewsbury were from the Second and Third Divisions, and Koumas is Welsh. We presume Shrewsbury would jump at cash for a youngster like Tolley if it was him, so it seems it is anyone's guess. Any ideas?

Reports this afternoon say Titus Bramble has failed to make it out to Greece in time to play in tonight's U21 match.

The defender had stayed behind to attend his grandmother's funeral yesterday, but hoped to make it in time for the game. Unfortunatley he didn't make the flight.

Contrary to reports yesterday it seems that Matt Holland is not to captain Ireland tomorrow against Estonia. Sources, including the BBC, said yesterday that the Town skipper was set to wear the armband in Talinn tomorrow.

However, the Irish press today says that Steve Staunton will captain the Irish as he breaks Tony Cascarino's 88-cap Irish record.
