Muñoz Still to Hear Back from Town - Ipswich Town News

Athletic Bilbao defensive midfielder Iñaki Muñoz is still to hear whether Town will offer him a contract after his recent trial, according to reports in Spain this morning. Muñoz spent a week with the Blues in April.

Muñoz, who is surplus to requirements at Athletic despite having another year on his contract, was at Playford Road during the week in which Roy Keane took over as manager from Jim Magilton.

Born in Pamplona, Muñoz started his career with Osasuna, progressing from their B team to their senior side via a season-long loan at CD Toledo in 2000/01.

In 2007 the 5ft 11½in tall midfielder joined his current club, but made only five appearances during 2008/09.

Muñoz has made unofficial ‘international' appearances for both the Basque country and the Navarre region.

Regardless of whether Muñoz impressed Roy Keane, a defensive midfielder appears to be on the new Town manager's radar with Scottish reports at the weekend claiming that a £450,000 bid for Morgaro Gomis.

Meanwhile, Keane is one of a number of names being linked with the vacant manager's role at Celtic in the wake of Gordon Strachan's resignation yesterday. The Town boss, a former Celtic player, appears highly unlikely to take the job having only joined the Blues a month ago.

Cork City received good news in the Irish High Court yesterday. The winding up order made against them has been deferred until June 15th while their precise debt to the taxman is clarified.

Town are due to play Cork in a friendly in July and the winding up order, which could have seen the club go out of business, is likely to be the reason for the delay in confirming the fixture.

Elsewhere, former boss Jim Magilton is now said to be up against ex-Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd for the QPR job.
