Squad Set for Pre-Season Training Camp - Ipswich Town News

Boss Roy Keane says he will be taking his players away on a training camp as part of Town's pre-season preparations. The programme is gradually coming together with several pre-season games having been announced in the last fortnight.

Keane told the club site: "I'm looking at getting six or seven friendlies in our pre-season schedule and we're looking at taking the players to a training camp as well.

"The players will have a long, hard season in front of them and it's important that our preparation is right.

"We need them peaking for the start of the season, but it's also important that we get through the summer with no real injury problems."

We understand that Keane is likely to take the squad to Spain or Portugal to a resort such as the La Manga Football Centre to continue the squad's preparations for 2009/10. Keane has also said that he will take his players for a session with the army at some point during pre-season.

Town are still to confirm a date for their pre-season friendly at Cork City, while they will play FAI First Division side Finn Harps at their Finn Park ground on Tuesday 7th July.

Back in England, first team friendlies already organised are a game against Charlton at the Valley on Tuesday 28th July, a trip to Southend on Wednesday 22nd July, a visit to Brentford on Wednesday 15th July and the Fabian Wilnis testimonial at Portman Road against Colchester on Saturday 25th July.

A Town reserves side will travel to Hadleigh United for a pre-season game at their Millfield ground on Wednesday 8th July.
