Town Weakened for Shrewsbury Clash - Ipswich Town News

Town look set to be without a number of senior players due to international commitments when they face Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup first round on August 11th. International friendlies are also scheduled for that week and Town could lose several first team squad members.

Gareth McAuley's Northern Ireland, Alex Bruce and Owen Garvan's Republic of Ireland and Veliche Shumulikoski's Macedonia are all set for action during that week.

Football League spokesperson Sophie Stansfield says they are yet to receive any requests to move ties: "We highlighted this clash to clubs in October and they voted to keep the Carling Cup on the same date as the friendly internationals, which UEFA brought forward from the traditional date by one week.

"We have not had any individual requests to bring the date forward to week commencing August 3rd, which would be the only option, but we would certainly consider a request if mutually agreed between both clubs involved.”

Town travel to Shrewsbury's Prostar Stadium for game, their first visit to the Shrews' new ground.
