Cardiff Interest Puts Delaney Move From QPR on Hold? - Ipswich Town News

Cardiff City's interest in QPR left-back Damien Delaney has put the Irishman's move to Town on hold, according to reports in Wales. The Blues have been after the Republic of Ireland international for more than a month, while a report earlier today claimed that the switch is close to being done.

However, according to a Welsh newspaper, Delaney, who can also play at centre-half, was all set to complete his move to the Blues until Cardiff showed interest in him in the wake of their sale of Roger Johnson to Birmingham City. The 27-year-old is now said to be in talks with the Bluebirds regarding a move to the Welsh capital.

The deal on the table at Town is reportedly an initial £750,000, plus £250,000 if the Blues make the play-offs and a further £100,000 after the Cork-born defender makes 50 appearances.

A new left-back is clearly a priority for the Town management this summer with Ben Thatcher the only naturally left-sided full-back at the club.

Leicester's Joe Mattock has also been linked, while Roy Keane's former Manchester United colleague Quinton Fortune, who these days tends to play as a left-back rather than a winger, is set for a trial in pre-season. Fortune may well be seen as an alternative option should the Delaney deal fall through.
