No QPR Plans to Target Blues - Ipswich Town News

Former Town assistant manager John Gorman says he and Jim Magilton have no current plans to try to take any Blues players to their new club QPR. Reports earlier in the month claimed David Norris and Jon Walters were both being targeted by the ex-Town management duo.

However, Gorman says no moves are currently on the cards, although that could change in the future: "We have no immediate thoughts about bidding for any Ipswich players. But you cannot rule it out.

"We are back training on Wednesday and have what we believe is a really good squad. They will get a chance.

"But we will be looking at a couple of additions, and of course we know the Ipswich players.”

As we initially reported last month, a player moving from QPR to Town is a more likely scenario with the Blues believed to have agreed a fee of £750,000 plus top-ups for left-back Damien Delaney, who is also understood to be strongly interesting Cardiff City.

Meanwhile, defender David Wright has tipped defender Tommy Smith and striker Jordan Rhodes to make their mark in 2009/10: "Both have great futures and I'm sure they will get given a good crack of the whip during pre-season and beyond.”

Elsewhere, former Town winger Martin Brittain has joined Blue Square Premier side Gateshead, having left Kidderminster Harriers at the end of last season. Brittain will team up with another former Town player, defender Chris Swailes, who signed for his hometown club earlier in the summer having left Hamilton Academical.

Ex-Town winger Ulrich Le Pen has left Lorient and has rejoined French third tier side Stade Lavallois. The 35-year-old was with Les Tangos early on in his career prior to his first spell with Lorient, which led to his short-lived move to the Blues in 2001.

Former Blues central defender Richard Naylor, who joined Leeds in January, is expected to miss the start of the season after undergoing back surgery.
