Couñago Fit for Portugal Trip - Ipswich Town News
Striker Pablo Couñago will join the rest of the squad at their training camp in Portugal later today after being passed fit by the club's medical staff. The Spaniard missed the friendly at Finn Harps due to a groin strain.
The players returned from Ireland yesterday and flew out to Portugal this morning for their five-day camp prior to next Wednesday's second senior friendly at Brentford (KO 7.45pm). In the meantime, the reserves are at Gorleston on Saturday (KO 3pm). More on Town's pre-season games here.
Meanwhile, Oxford United will be celebrating if Town complete the signing of Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead. When the Blue Square Premier club sold Whitehead to the Black Cats in 2004 for £150,000 they inserted a 25% sell-on clause into the deal.
Whitehead and Daryl Murphy look set to join the Blues in a joint £5 million deal. The fee has been agreed with Sunderland, while the pair are due to hold talks regarding personal terms with the Blues today.
