Plymouth Refute Haynes Link - Ipswich Town News

Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Sturrock has denied any interest in Town midfielder or striker Danny Haynes. Yesterday, tabloid reports claimed the Pilgrims would make a £1 million move for the former England U19 international.

However, Sturrock told the Plymouth website that that's news to him: "I can assure you that Danny Haynes is not one of the players I am looking at."

As well as Argyle, Haynes was also recently linked with Swansea City.

Meanwhile, negotiations have continued with Sunderland duo Daryl Murphy and Dean Whitehead with the clubs understood to have agreed a £5 million fee for the pair.

Persuading them to take paycuts salaries may be the hardest task for chairman Marcus Evans, chief executive Simon Clegg - who is off on holiday this weekend - and manager Roy Keane if they want to complete the deals. Whitehead is believed to be on around £25,000-a-week and Murphy a not significantly lower figure.

Elsewhere, the academy trialists in action for the reserves at Gorleston's Emerald Park this afternoon are reportedly Niall McArdle, Rory McKeown and Shane O'Connor.

McArdle is a central defender recently released by Sunderland who has been capped at U15, U16 and U17 levels by the Republic of Ireland.

Shane O'Connor is a midfielder or left-back, who has been released by Liverpool. He was previously Rockmount, the County Cork side where Roy Keane's brother Pat is currently a member of the first team and where the Town boss was a player as a youngster.

Academy manager Sammy Morgan previously announced that Northern Irish U16 international defender Keown would be one of this season's new academy scholars rather than returning for further trials at Playford Road this summer.
