Hull Boss Plays Down Murphy Interest - Ipswich Town News

Hull City manager Phil Brown appears to be playing down his club's interest in Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy. While the Tigers boss says he rates the Irish international, he says he hasn't made an enquiry regarding the Town target.

Murphy is understood to have undergone a medical at Portman Road at the end of last week and was on the verge of completing his move to Portman Road, but was subsequently reported to be off to the KC Stadium after Hull came in for him at the last minute.

However, Brown says he is yet to make a move for the former Waterford man: "I got a call over the weekend saying he was on his way to another football club and would I be interested in taking him? I think he's a decent striker myself but we haven't made any enquiries."

Town agreed a fee of £5 million with Sunderland for Murphy and midfielder Dean Whitehead last week with talks regarding personal terms subsequently taking place. Whitehead is also understood to be interesting Stoke City, who initially targeted him last summer.
