Martin to Make Town Bow at Brentford - Ipswich Town News

New signing Lee Martin is expected to play his first game in a Town shirt this evening when the Blues continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly at Brentford (KO 7.45pm).

The ex-Manchester United man appeared to have been bought to come in at left midfield when he signed last week, but says he would be happy to play up front: "I actually started out as a central midfielder and got moved out wide when I was 17. I did well and then just stayed there.

"The last six months I have been playing in and around the forwards though, and I've enjoyed my time doing that.”

Martin seems more likely to be in his left midfield role in the short-term with Luciano Civelli out injured until the new year having damaged knee ligaments late last season.

Town have no new injury worries, aside from striker Pablo Couñago, who will not be involved at Griffin Park due to the groin problem which kept him out of the Finn Harps match last week.

Martin says the five-day training camp at the Ria Park Hotel in the Algarve went well: "The intensity over the last couple of days has been really high and the boys have enjoyed it. That's the reason why we have come out here really. When you do get tired you tend to lose concentration, so fitness is vital.”

Town are likely to use all their fit first team squad members this evening with Jordan Rhodes returning to action against his former loan club, who he helped to the League Two title last season. Rhodes is now over the broken metatarsal which ended his 2008/09 prematurely.

Ex-Blue Lewis Price is likely to be in goal for the Bees having recently joined them on loan from Derby for the whole of the new season.

Town took on Brentford in a pre-season game last year, running out 2-0 winners with Pim Balkestein and Danny Haynes on the scoresheet.
