Town Out to Scupper Manchester City Striker's Sheffield United Move? - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Roy Keane is making a £2 million move for Manchester City striker Ched Evans, according to a tabloid report this morning. However, reports elsewhere claim that the former Norwich loanee is on the verge of joining Sheffield United.

Evans's opportunities have been limited with City â€" five starts, 21 sub appearances, one goal â€" and he has been tipped for a move all summer.

Reports yesterday claimed that Sheffield United were close to sealing a £1.5 million deal for Evans with Blades boss Kevin Blackwell confirming that an offer has been made: "We've just got to wait and see.

"We've put an offer in â€" everyone knows that â€" but he's still their player. Of course, we respect that and, naturally, what happens now is largely up to them.”

As a schoolboy, Evans, 20, was with Chester City but moved on to Manchester City in 2002 when the Deva Stadium club's youth set-up closed.

The St Asaph-born striker, who has also been linked with West Brom during the close season, made his senior debut for Manchester City in September 2007 in a Carling Cup tie against Norwich City, who he joined on loan in the following November.

In six months at Carrow Road, the 6ft tall striker made 20 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring 10 goals, one of those against the Blues in Town's 2-1 win at Portman Road.

For Wales, he has won 10 caps at full level, scoring two goals, having netted nine in nine for the U21s and one in four for the U19s.
