Couñago and Thatcher Still Out as Town Travel to Southend - Ipswich Town News

Striker Pablo Couñago and defender Ben Thatcher will again be missing when the Blues take on Southend United at Roots Hall this evening (KO 7.45pm). Couñago injured his groin earlier in pre-season, while Thatcher is not yet entirely over last season's knee ligament injury.

Town will take an otherwise strong squad to face the League One side, having returned from Ireland in the early hours of Monday.

The injured duo could be back for Thursday's reserves friendly at Clacton (KO 7.45pm).

Southend will include former Norwich loanee Maceo Rigters, once linked with the Blues, who is on trial from Blackburn. Also likely to be in the Shrimpers' squad is Stuart O'Keefe, who was released by Town at 16 having been at the academy since he was nine.

Town's U18s are in action against Sole Bay United this evening on Southwold Common (KO 6.30pm).
